Microfluidic Flow Electroporation

High-efficiency cell engineering for any cell and cargo

CyteQuest delivers mRNA, DNA, and CRISPR RNP payloads into cells in continuous flow — pairing high transfection efficiency with the gentle, uniform field that keeps cells healthy, from R&D batches to commercial scale.

The challenge

Engineering cells gently and efficiently

Traditional electroporation requires tedious optimization, lacks scalability, and offers users little flexibility. CyteQuest's microfluidic platform is designed to address these failures.

CyteQuest's platform is designed to automate optimization to achieve highly efficient transfection while preserving cell viability. Importantly, users can seamlessly scale to any processing volume to support applications from R&D through production.

Why microfluidic flow

Three strengths that set the platform apart

High transfection efficiency

Maximize delivery of DNA, mRNA, or CRISPR-Cas9 RNPs for robust, reproducible genetic modification across diverse cell types.

Superior cell viability

Efficient, automated optimization eases difficulty in identifying parameters that minimize cellular stress, leaving more healthy, functional cells able to expand and perform after transfection.

Scalable performance

Continuous flow produces consistent, predictable results from small R&D batches to commercial volumes — no re-optimization between scales.

Core technology

Electroporation, in continuous flow

A uniform electric field opens temporary pores in the cell membrane, cargo enters, and the membrane reseals — all while cells move through the channel in continuous flow.

The platform

Three systems, same microfluidic technology

Every CytoZap instrument uses the same core continuous flow technology, but offers different advantages.

Flexible volumes, simple form factor

Where a cuvette fixes the volume, continuous flow offers a flexible choice of sample volumes. Tailor your waveform to the cell and cargo type and process the precise number of cells needed for your application in this simple implementation of our core technology.

Rapid waveform screening

Incorporating the same flexible volumes and waveform design, the Scan adds high throughput screening and automated liquid handling to directly seed transfected cells in multiwell plates. Easily sweep through waveforms using small volumes of cells and reagents to rapidly converge on optimal transfection parameters.

Production scale, closed system, seamless scalability

The Max provides a bag-to-bag, closed system to deliver large-volume, production scale processing. Importantly, transfection parameters optimized on the Mini or Scan can be directly transferred to the Max for identical performance without re-optimization.

Waveform control

Custom waveform design

CyteQuest's platform applies an arbitrary, time-varying voltage waveform — not a fixed pulse. Every parameter can be tuned and optimized for a specific cell type and cargo combination, then reused for reproducible delivery.

Choose a waveform type and drag the sliders to see how each parameter reshapes the continuously cycling waveform. The platform can apply this level of control to match any cell and cargo combination.
